Warning ... Adult Content ;-)

When I was growing up on Vancouver Island, I used to love camping. My friends and I would pitch a tent and set up camp right at this spot, the Little Qualicum River Estuary, where the Little Qualicum River flows into the ocean. My friend's father owned property there, and we would set up camp for the whole summer. One summer Roy Orbison gave a concert in a town a few miles away. My friend and I hitch-hiked to the concert, got into the concert for free, and got free rides home afterwards. Oh, to be 17 again.

Camping was great fun, and we had our camp set up like pioneers. We bathed and washed our hair and our clothing in the river. We cooked over a camp fire and slept peacefully every night in our sleeping bags, after a day of swimming and hiking. After a while, living outdoors became almost second nature. We wanted for nothing, we had everything we needed -- we thought. Today my cousin George sent me a picture of the latest in camping equipment. Just when folks thought they had everything for the great outdoors, et voila!

  7. Aww...funny little irons there. Roy Orbison...that brought back memories. If I remember right, I bought one of his 45's when I was a teen with my babysitting money. Now I just wish I could remember which one I bought. Cool that you saw him in concert!

And here I was thinking camping was not much fun!

I think NOW I know why you, uh... enjoy "camping" so much!!! You Canadians certainly know how to get the MOST out of the great outdoors!!

Okay... so, when do you want to go .... camping??!!

  14. We still go camping a lot, so I enjoyed your story and really got a kick out of those little 'boy and girl' irons (or should I say guy and gal irons).

I just have to see if I can find them on-line; my 3 sons would love them!

Question.... What happens to the dog and the marshmallows if you leave them on the coals too long; do they 'age' like we old folk do??? I'm imagining those marshmallows as they start to 'sag' (smile).

Reminds me of the 'joke' my mom told me when I was about 20: "Did you hear about the guy walking down the street with his teeny weenie wagging?" I didn't get it at first; I only heard 'teeny weeny wagon', but then mom said to 'say it again' - and I finally figured it out.

  15. When I was 16 or 17 the Ozark Music festival came to town. I was forbidden to go but hearing about it now wish I would have gone. Even my FRIENDS said they would tell if I went, was sort of Woodstocky with more drugs I think.
I love the new camping utensils (from one who grew up in a family that thrived on things like that)
