Well, here it is another wild and crazy late Saturday afternoon, and I thought I would finally sit down and visit all my favorite blogs, but my eyes are bothering me again -- sigh -- and I have to rest them from the computer. I wonder, are computers bad for our eyes? We take it for granted that they aren't, but still I wonder... I Googled my question, and there are things we can do to prevent eyestrain, such as keeping the monitor 20 to 26 inches away from our eyes, and slighly below eye level, and keeping a soft light focused on the screen to soften the glare. This picture is the view from my desk as I sit at my computer, and I think I'm just going to turn the computer off for a while. I'll be back very soon. In the meantime, you are all invited to drop in for coffee, tea -- or the beverage of your choice -- in my little treehouse.
Love your tree house! It's so light & airy - & comfortable looking. I'd like a closer look at that pottery collection though - it looked really interesting!
ReplyDeleteSure is!If you have glasses I suggest you you progressive lens :)
ReplyDeleteYour tree house is great :)
Love you Tree house...A wonderful place to come to and bring your sighs and your dreams
ReplyDeleteLinda
It is a beautiful 'treehouse.' I especially love the fireplace and that gold trim around it. I saw your last post and thought you looked great in your glasses. And what a treat to hear your voice!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful and i should know about "tree" - houses.
ReplyDeleteNever mind Dorothy Parker. I think you told me once that men do make passes at girls who wear glasses. If you have to, you have to.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, cozy place. I recognized that corner hutch in the dining area. There was one just like it in my childhood home! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteyou have a beautiful little heaven there:) its lovely !
ReplyDeleteEye strain can be reduced significantly by taking regular breaks from the computer, resting your eyes, stretching and doing eye exercises.
ReplyDeleteFor a demo of 3 great eye exercises by Dr. Grossman, one of the Country's leading behavioral optometrists, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W10j2fL0hy0
Also, research studies show that supplementing with astaxanthin, lutein and black current seed oil daily significantly improved eye strain at week 2 and 4 of the test period.

Very charming and cozy. I like your treehouse!
ReplyDeleteYour tree house is so lovely and looks as though it belongs in a decorator's magazine. Loved the video! You should get your eyes examined a.s.a.p., Jo, just to play it safe.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting my little treehouse, everyone. I'm glad you found it cozy.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I have an appointment with the ophthalmologist.
I enjoyed the video; while our home might be a bit larger, it looks very much like yours with the art-work; the many pillows on our davenport, and the rattan pieces.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you decided rattan would help to open up the space; be light and airy as well as whimsical (at least that's why I use rattan pieces and furniture this way in my mixture of solid pieces that normally are used inside a home).
I also have stained glass pieces hanging from the windows; I even have wind-chimes near the windows (inside as well as outside - inside when I open the windows so they sing to me at all times, and the outside ones sing when the windows are closed because of our high temperatures here, in the desert).
I worked on computers (and actually the design of some) for 30 years; I must say it's good to see you've found this information to share with others, to avoid eye strain and damage that does occur over a long period of time when one watches both the television and now the computer for so many hours a day.
I keep at least 30 inches away from my screen; rarely watch television (never have), so at 67 years of age, I think I've avoided doing any real damage to my eyes (yet, I do wear reading glasses now).
I wasn't surprised at all by the tenor of your voice - I truly anticipated the sound of it, because of the way you write and of course your love of art and the out-doors which also gave me a clue.
I expected a whisper in your voice; a genteel delivery, and a tenor that I'd liken to a singing voice that would be in the mezzo-soprano range, and that's how it sounded to me.
That's a great idea using a short video - I have a few other friends who do the same with their blogs, so I get to see their outside flowers; their birds - hear the sounds of their wind-chimes, and feel as if I've made a recent visit to their home.
I'm sure you stay cozy here during the winters. Have a wonderful week. Diane
Not long ago I did forget to take my glasses with me being on the way to a lesson, and because I can't read for a long time without, we talked for the rest of the time - turned out to be the best I ever had, seems as if one can see sometimes 'even better' without.
ReplyDeleteClearly worth to see is your place, makes one happy to know you are living there.
Upon a different note, had to close the former blog, due to various problems and would be more than honoured to see your bloglist updated with the new one:

A wonderful new week for you.
you have a lovely treehouse...what a nice invitation...hope your eyes get better soon
ReplyDeletewhat a great place to write, enjoy a good book and sip on some tea.
ReplyDeleteJo, I loved seeing your charming home. It looks so cheerful! Just the perfect spots to curl up and watch a movie on a rainy day, or read a book. It looks snug, happy, and welcoming. Thank you so much for showing it to us!
ReplyDeleteThis may or may not help, but I keep the brightness on my monitor at the halfway mark. It's not in the least dim, but really takes care of any kind of glare.
I hope the doctor is able to sort out the problem and that your eyes cease to bother you very soon :-)
All of your teeny, tiny rooms shout YOU in such a BIG way! Your home is so exactly what I thought A Majority of Two would be! Wonderful! Now pass the scones. LOL!
ReplyDeleteYour tree house looks like a wonderful place to visit. I can so imagine sitting there with you, having a cup of tea, and just chatting and discussing various subjects. That is how I feel when I read your blog. You are such a delight!
ReplyDeleteOh, regarding your MM blog? Did you scan those pics from the book and then transfer them to your blog? Or were those pics taken from the net?
Thanks for that teeny tiny little visit, it was lovely and I gladly accept the invitation to dinner. I will bring some lovely Nederburg wine and we can have a leisurely dinner telling each other about or respective families, interests and countries. Now just for the air fare.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo for giving me a visit into your world! It's charming! :)
