Just for fun, I have decided to try something slightly different, so I'm giving it a test run. I have noticed that some of the folks out there in the blogosphere respond to their blog post comments by e-mail. I like that. It seems very friendly. I like friendly, don't you? During my working day, I am often not able to go into my blog and read the wonderful comments from all my blogging friends, so as much as I would like to respond, I am often not able to do it. However, I am able to go into my e-mail.
So now, I have set up my comments section so that all your wonderful, fabulous, witty, insightful comments will come to my ... ta-da ... e-mail as well as to the comments box, and I can respond to you individually. I have set up an e-mail just for you. Is that wonderful or what??? However, it's often fun to have an ongoing conversation on my blog as well, so on days when I am still able to do that, I will continue to do it. We can play it by ear, and see how it works. Don't you just love that expression, "Play it by ear?" When I was four years old, I sat down at the piano and played "Mary Had a Little Lamb", and my mother said, "Oh, listen! She's playing by ear!" It always seemed strange to me. Well, we'll play it by ear...
Cheers,

Playing it by ear ... what a strange expression, eh?
It's sometimes nice to respond to comments via email if the response will be lengthy or maybe more personal than you'd like for your blog. But, yes it's nice to see the responses in the blogs themselves.
Enjoy the sunshine!
I agree with tinkerbell - it is nice to see the responses - I think that is what makes blogging a "community". That having been said there are definitely times when a personal e-mail response is appropriate.
Tinkerbell and Carla, I think you are both right. I sometimes feel bad because I am not able to respond on my blog right away ... but you're right. It's much nicer to respond here.
Cheers!
Jo
Some people don't want their email available, so I will respond to them on their own blog, or mine on occasion. I've always gotten all the comments sent to my emailbox, because I can see what's being said while away from my computer. But I don't respond until I get home, because there is NO WAY I will ever be comfortable with texting on a tiny keyboard!!!
I like the email replies but I never know whether to respond to my response or not.
I rarely respond with a comment unless someone asks me a question.
I feel wretched! :(
Booo Hoo. After a year of blogging I've learned something new...

I was pleasantly surprised to get an email from you today! Now I know the plan you have and I think it is a good one. I have been getting email responses from some people for a long time, and I think it adds a very personal touch.
Nice plan Jo. I am wondering how does that work .....so I may join you!

You are very clever! I don't often rwspond to comments, because I wonder if people even check back for them.
So virtuous!
I play by ear, till my lobes get tired...
Aloha, Friend!
Comfort Spiral
Hi Jo, the wonders of technology! I have only recently bought a cellphone that have connectivity and I also started reading blogs and responding on it. It was so exciting to sit on the bus in the mornings and read all my fellow bloggers thoughts until I realised that I have used up my months airtime for my phone, in only one week. Eeek! So now it is back to keeping blogging to my laptop - lol.
I like the email bit. After reading a persons blog for months I kinda feel like they are a friend. Of course I find it interesting to read the comments people make, too Pam
I am always surprised when I get a response to a blog comment by direct email, not blogger email (which is actually kind of spotty.) It's nice to get comments back, always, but I prefer to have the exchange on the blog so everyone can participate if they like.
The original post about the Bell is still up on my blog, Jo, just way down the list.
You can find it at http://anexplorers.blogspot.com/2010/02/bell-and-you.html
Currently with 124 comments for your reading pleasure.
I like both! Although my blog is not set up (yet) to respond to comments via e-mail, I do sometimes respond by e-mailing responses to comments that are in a more personal ( for myself or commenter) vein.I do get a lot of responses via e-mail from other bloggers, but i check back to their older posts to read responses too.
Either way, a response now and then shows you really do care enough about your readers to acknowledge their comments, and I KNOW you care Jo! Thanks.
Jo, I need to be savvy with blogging, but it's hard to teach myself new tricks. Sounds like you may have struck upon a good thing.
Please check out my new post. Best,

Both ways offers a choice, which is always good
but
I like the give and take of responses on here and the ability to hop on over from the comment section to explore a new blog
I like the idea of suddenly showing up at your desk at work. It's almost kind of naughty.
I have to admit, I also prefer responding in comment threads. It's interesting to read, for one thing, but sometimes new subjects will develop.
I do respond to everyone, but I think everyone does it differently. I tend to leave pretty lengthy comments, and I have to admit if someone doesn't respond at all, repeatedly, I assume I'm not saying anything of interest to them, and move on.
I look forward to "playing it by ear!" :-)
How did you set it up to go to your Email box?
In mine, the comments go to my Email box for moderation ...but I can't reply to them (at least I don't think I can).
Sometimes it gets laborous to leave reply comments in my blog and reply directly to the person ... Heaven knows that I have left comments on blogs and30 minutes later couldn't tell you what blog I was on.
