If you haven't seen me around the blogs lately, it's because I have been enjoying my new bed.
(Oh, that doesn't sound very good does it...?)
What I mean is, after
months years of procrastinating, I finally bought a new bed. The moment it was delivered, I put on clean sheets, climbed into it and promptly fell asleep. For a long time. This morning I woke up thinking,
"Oh my goodness, this is how it feels to have a good night's sleep." I really felt like Goldilocks; the bed was
just right.
I was a bit concerned at first because the bed is
quite very high off the floor, and I felt like the princess in
The Princess and the Pea. I'm not very tall, and I wondered if I would need a ladder to get into this thing? And what about if I hop out of bed in the middle of the night. Are my feet going to find the floor? Or would I be stranded up there until someone could rescue me?
"911: What is your emergency?"
"I'm afraid to get out of my new bed. Can someone please bring me a ladder?"
Today for the first time in a while, I have tons more energy. What a difference a good night's sleep makes -- on a good bed. I think I'll walk to work.

That seems like a very good decision you made there!
The right bedding is most important in a good night sleep. :)
P.S.: Maybe you should built yourself a small diy ladder with only two or three steps.
Dr. M's aunt has a bed that's pretty high off the floor. They have the cutest little wooden step - I think you should get one of those. Although as a card carrying klutz, I would trip on it myself :)
Do you mind sharing what kind of bed?
My former employers had a little step stool thing so that their elderly dog could get up into their bed. Not that I am calling you an elderly dog!
I'm glad to hear you've gotten yourself a nice new comfy bed!
Sounds wonderful. Enjoy the extra zzzz's. (But maybe a step-stool is in order?)
Jo, You're right, there's nothing like a good night's sleep. I think the images you chose to accompany your very good writing enhance this post greatly!
Hi Jo,
This is my first visit to your blog and I really like it! Isn't delightful that it's the little things in life, like getting a new bed and having a good night's sleep, that make everything else worthwhile?
Looking forward to reading your future posts,
Sam.
Its amazing what a good bed will do. My mom has one of the most comfertable beds I have ever been in. Somehow we all end up in it during family get togethers.
I had the same reaction when we got our new bed (almost 10 years ago...yikes!). Now that our dog is older, I'm considering those little doggie steps for him. Now that I think of it, I've seen little steps for people in some fancy catalogs...cherry finish, I believe. ;-)
I wish I had a new mattress, but I'm really happy with my bed, which is six feet off the ground! I have to climb a ladder to get into it, and when I sleep I'm just a few feet from my high ceiling. I call it the sky bed.
Happy snoozing!
I just got the latest issue of National Geographis and there is an article in it all about sleep. I have only skimmed through it but it is clear that a good nights sleep is crucial.
You should pick up the magazine and take it to bed with you! ;-)
I really enjoyed the photos you attached.
What a difference a bed makes! Congratulations on your new purchase.
You are brave. I would probably kill myself getting in and out of a tall bed. But....the confort sounds heavenly. Enjoy!
Congratulations on your purchase. It's amazing, isn't it, how different the world can look after some restorative sleep?
Yes, how a new mattress can make a difference!
This makes me think of how we finally decided to buy an "American" size mattress. Then, we had to buy a NEW BED, because the mattress didn't fit our Dutch bed! We went zig-zagging, criss-crossing that weekend in 5 areas in the L.A. Basin.I was glad when it was Monday! And I hope I learned my lesson:)
PS Our new bad is much higher than our old one -you get used to it:)
I so understand you...sleep...probably years now that I didn't get more than six hours, and not even in a row...wishing you a wonderful Friday.
Okay, I see you are NOT going to share what kind of bed you got. I have been thinking of a Tempur-pedic which everyone who has one says is the best. But it seems weird to me, to think of sinking down into my mattress. Anyway, I'm glad you are getting a good night's sleep! Worth its weight in mattresses.
Hello, everyone. My new bed is a Serta Overlea Eurotop pillowtop mattress with memory foam and wool. And magic. *heh* It's wonderful.
Cheers!
Jo
*Y-A-W-N* I'm off to bed now. :-)
I need a new bed! I'm happy for you and all that, of course, but that's what kept recurring as I read this post. My mother used to refer to me as the Princess and the Pea - I never figured out why, which is probably just as well.
That's terrific Jo! I felt the same way when we finally replaced our old mattress - "So this is what a good night's sleep feels like!" :)
haha... Good comparisons, you have made there...
& congrats on your new bed. :)
