Hair ... Our Crowning Glory

A sure sign that we no longer belong to the ... um ... younger generation, is our puzzlement over their hair. I work with a young fellow who has "Zac Efron hair", and I am amazed at how he manages to keep his hair in place all day. When he turns to speak to anyone, he moves his whole body, never just his head. He looks absolutely adorable, and completely silly. Who would ever have guessed that Bobby Goldsboro hair would be recycled again? How do they keep it that way? Is femininity the new masculinity?

All of us have pictures, hidden away in the deepest, darkest recesses of our photo albums, of ourselves with "baby bath hair". Remember that? And when our own children came along, we inflicted the same ordeal on them, and then took their picture. I think every living, breathing soul has a picture of themself with baby bath hair. Well, for goodness sake, who knew we were turning these unfortunate babies -- the boys, anyway -- into sex symbols? It seems baby bath hair is enough to make a teenage girl hyperventilate.

Does anyone remember these guys? Apparently they're back in style. Everything old is new again. I still think George was the cute one. Paul looked too much like a girl. Maybe it was the hair.

  1. One of these days even I'll be in style again. The thought is frightening.

  2. Happy Easter, Jo.
Mine's turned gray but at least it hasn't turned lose. =)

I think you're onto something here. There's a guy on American Idol (who is in the lower three each week) who has that same hair style.

  3. I am feelin' ya Jo!

I am so greatful my 17 year old thinks the "Zac" look is silly... too much up keep and they have to keep swinging their head in one direction to keep it out of their eyes.

I thought George was the cutest one also... if I had to pick one.

    I just love your observations.

  4. The kids with the "baby bath hair" in your pictures are sooo cute!
Anyway, the style doesn't matter much as long as the hair is healthy, silky, shining - as hair is indeed "our crowning glory".

  5. Yes, I'm completely confused by the attraction to the shaggy hair. I really just want to send them to get a hair cut. It's annoying to watch them toss their hair...I also am completely baffled by the attraction to guys who use more hair products than most women I know. What happened to just needing a brush?

I agree about George; Paul always makes me think of a basset hound.

  6. Josie....everything gets recycled...even hairstyles. My daughters laugh when I show them photo of me..and they say something like "gosh mom you were ahead of the times" So really was I ahead or do the stylist of today have no creativity? As for the Beatles and music...my middle daughter who is 21 just loves music from the 60's....I was never really a Beatles fan...my elder sister were...I think I was to young at the time to appreciate them...and now they are retro....

Great post JO......Happy Easter to you!

  7. Don't forget the musical "Hair".
    Happy Easter.
Happy Hair Day, rather Hare Day.

  8. I work in a high school, I see a lot of Zac Efron hair. I hate it! I hate how they have to flip their head to keep it out of their eyes, I hate how it looks, I just hate it. And then they grow it and it gets long and gross. Get a hair cut ya dirty hippy. hehe. Clearly I have issues with the way male teens wear their hair.

  9. I actually love the Beatles hair, I remember how much it drove our parents crazy. Now here we are, going crazy over the same look! OMG, I grew up while I wasn't looking! Happy Easter to you, Jo, and thanks for the smiles. :-)

  10. Oh dear I'm afraid I had to look up both Bobby Goldsboro and Zac Efron as I've never heard of either of them. I quite like some longer hair on young men as long as it's kept clean and well shaped. Julio Iglesias' three youngest sons have beautiful Beatles-style hair, but they are still very young and well looked after. http://www.hola.com/musica/galeria/2010032413540/julio/iglesias/hola/1/2/ The two blondes in the front row are his twin daughters.

  11. George was my favorite, too.

There are no pictures of me in a bath, but there was one of me jumping through a lawn sprinkler as a toddler wearing my mother's shower cap. It is truly blackmail-worthy.

  12. John all the way...
I wanna hold your hand, I wanna hold your haa-aa--a--nd, please please please, oh yeah... :)

  13. Does anybody remember the Beatles? Jo, they were never out of style. And unlike every other band they created the trends, they didn't follow them. And the fans always put the music far above the styles.

Will anybody remember the Jonas Brothers in 40 years? Or their hair?

  14. The mop head look was creeping back in a few years ago and I wasn't paying attention but it is so carefully combed and some guys spend every waking moment pushing aside from their eyes.

  15. About that "Zac" you work with: You have to start worrying when he commences with the tree-frog sounds.

  16. My god yes...George...sigh... Have you seen his son? Looks just like him!

  17. I don't get this 'Zac Efron' hair & look!?
Sorry to be so blunt/outright, but he(& others like him) leaves me cold and I would rather become a lesbian than like a guy with his hairstyle... :(

But, George Harrison, I think he was the only guy who could pull off any hairstyle!

  18. I haven't gotten a haircut in a few months. If my father were still alive he would be yelling at me to buy a dress! Heh!

But I don't mind letting my hair grow out long. It makes me feel a bit like a rebel and when my jerky little piss-ant boss tells me to get a haircut, I just look down at his balding head and tell him to f**k off! Heh!! (I am so nice...!)

For some reason he doesn't like it when I say that to him....!

  19. George was always my favourite.
Those funny new hair styles the young 'men' here are wearing are called 'Emo' styles. I am not sure but I think they denote the young person in question is gay? There are some television personalities who spring to mind, who are proudly 'gay' and they have the swept over look.
