It's sort of a lazy day here for me today. We're in the middle of a huge Pacific wind storm, a perfect day to curl up and read a book. In any case, my computer is right in the line of fire of a big Douglas fir tree that appeared to be heading straight for my window a couple of times, so I thought it best not to sit here for long, until the wind dies down a bit.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither I nor you.
But when the leaves hang trembling,
The wind is passing through.
Who has seen the wind?
Neither you nor I.
But when the trees bow down their heads,
The wind is passing by. ... Christina Rossetti

Jo...it's such a coincidence that yesterday I was looking out my kitchen window at the trees bending in the strong winds we've been having and that same poem by Christina Rossetti ...."Who has seen the wind"... came to mind. It stayed in my thoughts as I was looking out the window while washing the dishes. LOL. We have high winds predicted again for Sunday. You were wise to move away from that tree overshadowing your window! Sharon.
We are in the middle of the same storm...lots of down trees and power outage. I'd stay away from that window for awhile!
Be safe and Happy Easter..;p
Seems like there are high winds blowing all over the place... Mother Nature works slowly, but she is picking up speed... slowly but surely...
Be safe ...
I know winds! These past few days have been cold and blustery.
Be careful! We had some strong wind here in Iowa just today -- gusts of about 70 mph in southern Iowa. The TV news had video and pictures of the storm damage.
Our storm went through fast. I have a feeling your Pacific storm is a long lasting one.
Maybe this would be a good day / night to relax in a nice warm place with a nice fireplace and big, strong walls!
Hi Jo,
We have had a few bad gusts out here where we are usually protected from the wind. My daughter called me from Horseshoe Bay where the power is out. They have been waiting over four hours for a ferry. The water is quite rough but ferries were still going.
Did you ever listen to the radio program called "Who Has Seen the Wind" adapted from W.O. Mitchell's book? I wonder if we would still enjoy them as much today?
Hope this storm passes over quickly. Marlene
That does look rather worrying! Weather over here is also very strange this year. This is the first Easter weekend in many, many years that it has rained. By Easter our rainy season is usually over but this year it has just not stopped. Nobody is complaining though, we can do with all the rain we can get.
I do hope you will not have a tree invasion of your apartment. However, I do enjoy watching storms and would love a day like that.
We are having the same west coast storm as you, I think. It's rainy and very windy here today, umbrellas turned inside out and yes, big trees heading headlong for windows.
But how exciting to have such a big beautiful window from which to watch the storm as long as you can run fast.
You are so brave, Jo! Whenever we have high winds, like in hurricanes, I hide in a closet. It's very windy, here, too. Hope you have a lovely Easter!
i love storms and wind.. :)
i like to go up to the roof when hard breeze hits my face and blows my hairs...and then rain pushing down those things storm tries to carry...but my mom won't let me.. XD
Jo, It seems we are caught in the same storm from Canada down through northern California. The winds have died down here, for now it's just rain and rain and more rain. You firs seem to be much closer to your home than mine...Yikes. I know what seeing those tall trees sway feels like. Keeping good thoughts for you there.
Linda
your that is...it's late and my spelling has gone to **ll in a hand basket it seems ;)
Loved the video of your tree and the wind, just hope it stays upright. I love stormy weather, as long as it stays civil and not to destructive.
Same here! Since I am only an hour south of you, we had the same storm all day yesterday. Now, Saturday morning, it's calmed down considerably. I am hoping that the Hornby eagles nest is all right, I can't wait for first light so I can look. (www.hornbyeagles.com)
Wind is the answer to a riddle from JRR Tolkien's "The Hobbit."
Riddles in the Dark...
GOLLUM:
Voiceless it cries,
Wingless flutters,
Toothless bites,
Mouthless mutters.
We had quite a windstorm here this morning - which just happened to be the anniversary of a famous 1974line of tornadoes that wiped out about 1/4 of the town where we live now. Kind of spooky!
We have some very old and big pines surrounding our home too. I don't blame you for moving away from the window! (During a windstorm I've done the same thing myself.)
