The last couple of days have been insanely busy for me, so I haven't had much time to Today I am meeting a school friend for dinner. (I'll call her Fiona because I like that name...) When Fiona and I were in grade eight, it was her first day in our new, strange school. The teacher asked someone to volunteer sharing a locker with her, and "yours truly" offered. Fiona and I became fast friends, and I invited her home for dinner one night after school. She and my mother were chatting in the kitchen, and I could hear their conversation become more and more animated, until they were almost shrieking with laughter. It turns out that my new friend Fiona is related to me. Her father and my mother were cousins, and both are from South Africa. All together now -- what a small world...! Fiona and I have been close friends ever since then. She is in town for one day today, and has invited me to have dinner with her. We have chosen a very swanky restaurant, because -- well -- why not?

ReplyDeleteJo, I love positive posts like this. Good friends are treasures to be valued above all else. Next week I'll be attending my 45th high school reunion - so far 14 of the original 22 graduates (all women) will be attending. I consider it a "sisterhood" - we'll have one dinner together at a home in SF and then a special dinner night with 3 of the most special friends on the next!

I took your advise and took my mom out to dinner last night. At a nice resturant. A friend of mine had given me a gift card to this resturarnt for Christmas, but I haven't been because I have been waiting for the right time. After reading your post I thought, "Why can't Thursday be the right time?"
