The New Seven Years Old...
Embedding of the video has been disabled, but you can watch it here.
Is this appropriate? These little girls are seven years old. Where were their parents? Where were the other big people who are supposed to protect children? I cannot imagine Marigold's mother allowing her to do something like this -- not in a million years. These little girls are obviously very talented, and they're having a wonderful time, but who chose this act for them? It's completely inappropriate for little seven-year old girls. According to Melissa Presch, the mother of one of the little girls, the girls got their moves from the 'Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel' movie -- not Beyonce's music video. Well, that says it all right there. She went on to say the little girls were doing nothing provocative. Oh, really? What the h*ll is going on? What are we doing to our children? What happened to childhood and innocence? What happened to roller skates and hopscotch and skipping ropes and bicycles? And I don't know who gave the video its unfortunate name, whether it was by accident or on purpose, but, oh goodness, those poor little girls. What happens on the internet stays on the internet ... forever.
I got gloss on my lips, a man on my hips
hold me tighter than my Dereon jeans
acting up, drink in my cup
I couldn't care less what you think
I need no permission, did I mention
Dont pay him any attention
Cuz you had your turn
But now you gonna learn
What it really feels like to miss me
Cuz if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it
If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it
Don’t be mad once you see that he want it
If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it
Oh, goodness...
My granddaugter is 7. If she was dancing like this I would be VERY upset with her parents.
ReplyDeleteI'm nooo prude, but I can't even wrap my brain around Beyonce' dancing like this let along a 7 year old.
It's embarrassing for all involved. Evidence of innocence lost.
Rebecca
I couldn'T was the video, since Sony Music doesn't let the people, in my country, watch their music. :(
ReplyDeleteBut I can tell you this, here boys & girls start smoking at around the age of 9 to 11.
And 14 year old girls have handbags instead of backpacks, when they go to school.
And 12 year old girls? At least 50% of them starts wearing make-up a that age.
That's the way things go these days... D:
OYG!!!
ReplyDeleteI watched it on another channel on youtube... WTF?
I know this sounds perverted, but a 7 year old shouldn't 'spread' her legs like that, and shouldn't wiggle with her bottom like that.
I am so glad, I have no kids!!!
little girls growing up waaaay to soon...it's disturbing. Why invite trouble, it's hard enough as it is. Wow
ReplyDelete"It's completely inappropriate for little seven-year old girls."
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely true.
Infact its inappropriate for any lady of any age.
Children normally try and do what they watch on TV.....you know who is to blame? The TV.
Take care
I was flabbergasted when I saw this last night. They may be very talented, but this is not the format for little girls...or big ones for that mattter!
ReplyDeleteI saw this on Huffington Post yes day. I believe their conclusion was... "appropriate or not these girls can dance."
ReplyDeleteBut to me this isn't about dancing this is about sexualizing 7 year olds. You can teach those girls to dance and dress in a way that is not inviting pedophiles to download a video of their routine.
Call me a prude, but my 11 year old would never be allowed to perform that dance. I don't even let her buy shorts with words printed on the butt because no one should be looking at her butt much less her crouch. I really feel sorry for these girls. They deserve so much better.
@IP - this isn't TVs fault. These girls were taught a routine and their parents bought them these custums and probably gushed about how good they looked.
ReplyDeleteBlame the Parents.
That was and is soooooo inappropriate for children of that age...for any age for that matter.
ReplyDeleteWhere are their parents? No matter what is on TV it is a parents JOB to screen what their children see and do...
Today so many parents think they need to be their childs "Friend"...all well and good to have a strong loving bond with your children...but you have to be the PARENT...and use the word they don't want to hear "NO". Parents set boundries.
Linda
I just watched the video and feel totally sick and repulsed. These little girls have been taught to dance like this, and it's really perverted. I lived in Boulder, Colorado when little JonBenet Ramsey was killed, and when I saw the "beauty contests" that her mother had entered her in, I was appalled and frightened for our society. This video makes me feel the same exact way.
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was that pedophiles everywhere are rejoicing. Hideous.
ReplyDeleteHi Katy and everyone
ReplyDeleteWhen i was a little boy....something similar happened with me.
i used to like a bollywood song..watched on TV..and sang it everywhere including in school....no one stopped me .
Today i realize that it had inappropriate lyrics for a young boy.
TV and now internet is a very powerful media and we need to protect kids everywhere....
Take care.
Oh that's just disgusting! I'm feeling awfully sickened at the moment.
ReplyDeleteHi IP-
ReplyDeleteI agree that TV and other forms of media strongly influence children's behavior, but in the particular case of the girls in this video, its clear they are performing a dance that was choreographed FOR them. These aren't customs they put together.. these are outfits that their Parents bought them. Outfits their parents told them to wear. All of these girls even had their hair and make-up done for them.
In your situation you picked up something inappropriate from TV, these kids had it handed to them with the full cooperation of the people who are suppose to be watching out for them.
Jo, you should turn your questions to those who proudly call themselves liberals. The so-called 'new liberalism', has invaded every corner (especially in schools and in the Media) and done a lot of damage, so much so that the entire western civilization is jeopardized.
ReplyDeleteSo true...I am not uptight, or insistently prudent, but there are just some things little children shouldn't do. I agree with your sentiments, what happened to childhood innocence?
ReplyDeleteI watched 10 seconds and that was definitely enuf for me! Indeed, WTF are the parents thinking, letting their little girls strut around like cats in heat? Grrrrrrr.
ReplyDeleteIt's just plain sick, is what it is, when mothers are so desperate for a turn in the spotlight that they sell out their little girls like this!
This video embodies everything that's wrong with society and child-rearing these days!
Anyyyyways, enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!
Being a teacher, assume, that there's a lot of work ahead. Outstanding entry of yours. Please have a wonderful Saturday.
ReplyDeleteIT KIND OF MADE ME THINK OF STRIPPERS ON "TAKE-YOUR-DAUGHTER-TO-WORK-DAY."
ReplyDeleteI don't consider myself a prude or anything but holy crap that video made me SUPER uncomfortable. I don't think little girls should EVER move like that. EVER. EVER. I'm just sitting here shaking my head. I ugh. I don't know what else to say...
ReplyDeleteI just think it's sad.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has danced for 6 yrs now (just turned 12) and there is NO WAY I would ever allow that. But she danced "competition" last year and some of routines I saw (jazz and hip hip) were almost as bad. She does ballet and lyrical.
ReplyDeleteI feel that is totally inappropriate - at any age!
It sickens me to think there's a whole lot people out there who do NOT see how inappropriate this "situation" is. Simply deplorable.
ReplyDeleteLooks like there's even more people out there we need to protect our kids from than we thought.
Welcome to the brave new world of the corporacracy where anything that generates a rating is acceptable.
ReplyDeleteMy reactions....
ReplyDelete1) a gift to online pedophiles
2) future NFL cheerleaders
3) not much different than those little girl beauty pageants
4) what an insult to the women who worked so hard for women's rights
5) they're great dancers who could have demonstrated that to more age-appropriate music
...pretty much in that order.
OMG - totally inappropriate! I question the parents sanity.
ReplyDeleteThat is SICK. I can not believe a mother would allow her daughter (regardless of age) to exhibit herself like that. But a seven year old dancing a stripper dance??
ReplyDeleteOh I bet this is a favorite download for pedifiles!
I would assume they had a dance "teacher" who came up with the routine. At some point the parents had to know what their girls were doing......... I wonder if any of the parents pulled their duaghters out of this dance studio? I wonder why the parents of these girls are so blind....
ReplyDeleteThose outfits are why I did not let me daughter go past the 6 months of dance that she took. Apparently, those kind of outfits are what is considered appropriate for dance, despite the age of the girls. I know that my little one enjoys dance, but I am not going to allow her to wear an outfit that is barely there just to learn how to dance, especially in that manner!
