This is my most recent drawing, my little wooden duck. It's done with pastels, charcoal and Conté crayon. I collect ducks. Yes, I do. I love ducks. I have a brass duck, two wooden ducks, a wooden goose and two brass geese. I love the way a wooden duck looks sitting on a bookcase, amongst the books. Ducks just seem to be so -- Canadian -- somehow. So this little duck is from my collection, and I decided to attempt a drawing of him. I was quite happy with how he turned out.
Behold the duck.

Wonderful duck drawing! Here in New Jersey we are somewhat overrun by Canada geese (go figure) which I'm assuming must have come from Canada at some point in time.

ReplyDeleteI have always adored duck decoys, although I would never hunt any creature. They have become very expensive in antique stores, though, or I would have a collection of them.
Well just don't give up blogging! It turned out very well.

ReplyDeleteWonderful drawing. When I visited Maryland, the shops were full of wooden duck decoys, some of them quite detailed - their purpose had to be explained to me.

ReplyDeleteOh Jo, I think I'm more fond of this one than the red tea kettle. Ducks are delightful creatures - I have one decoy that belonged to my father and it's one of my most treasured possessions. I sensed a calm and sureness in this drawing - have you thought about retiring per chance? I'm 63 and have been "retired" for 4 years, and, I have to say, I've been able to discover my creative self, at least somewhat due to my circumstance.
