The Mulberry Tree
Vincent van Gogh
1889
September always feels like the beginning of the new year to me. All the frivolity of summer is over, and the real business begins. The children head back to school with their fresh bouquets of newly sharpened pencils, and everyone goes shopping for a new wardrobe -- or at least a new pair of shoes. What is fall without a new pair of fall shoes? As soon as I'm feeling better, I'm off to buy a new pair of shoes too. My shoes are increasingly becoming more utilitarian, and less decorative. But first, I'm going back to bed to get rid of this miserable cold. Have a wonderful day, everyone.
I adore your blog and am beginning to adore you as well! So looking forward to more of your posts!
ReplyDeleteI love Autumn. I too feel as though the new year, and a new beginning, occurs during the transition between Summer and Fall. Summers in the deep South are painful and frustrating and though our temperatures here have dipped below 90 degrees only once, I am already shopping for sweaters, boots and Halloween Decorations. Bring on the falling leaves and Grey skies!
Yes, I completely agree, Jo; autumn for me is the beginning of the new year, as it's when I go back to school and work resumes.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is so beautiful, the tall tree look splendid in the sunlight. Hope you feel better tomorrow :)
Yes, Jo, your voice doesn't sound quite right yet, I'm glad you're staying home a bit longer. I can see some changing leaves already! Your little patio is so lovely, though, and probably stays that way year round. Hugs to you, and I hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you for shearing your Treehouse garden with us. I do love Fall. With the start of school it seems like a new begining of so many things.
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon!

How true about September bringing a new start. I simply adore your choice of van Gogh's painting here. There is nothing more rejuvenating.
ReplyDeletefresh bouquets of newly sharpened pencils! I love that line.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll watch "you've got mail" to celebrate the new year.
Hope you feel better soon
I believe the weather people consider summer to be June, July and August. So you are right! The professional weather people do consider today to be the first day of fall.
ReplyDeleteI guess that means fall is September, October, November and winter is December, January and February. I think I agree with them.
Enjoyed the video and hope you are feeling better soon!
I always loved the smell of a new box of crayons. I can almost feel the scratchy fabric of the starched dresses and the pinch of new shoes .........
ReplyDeleteThere's something special about September. I enjoyed the video. It felt so peaceful and at the same time such a celebration of just being alive. Hope you feel better soon.

ReplyDeleteI am glad to see some flowers on your balcony. Down here Spring has sprung and the cold is slowly starting to make way. Hope you get better soon.
ReplyDeleteI love fall! And new shoes any time at all. Cashmere makes me very happy.
ReplyDeleteI liked hearing your voice, even with a cold. We seem to share the same weather and it has been a beautiful start to September. I feel the same about this month. A new start, and all things seem possible.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful morning at your tree house. Sorry you were still under the weather.
