There is a theory -- I guess you could call it the Big Bang Theory -- that all of the atoms that go to make up our corporal bodies were present at the moment of the Big Bang. In that regard, we are all closely connected; and since energy cannot be created or destroyed, we are all made from star dust and we will return to star dust. Are we connected in other ways too? Are we all one entity? I sometimes wonder about this, because there are times when I am able to "tune in" to the universe in ways that I don't understand. I don't try to do it, it just happens, and I don't question it when it does. Out of nowhere a premonition, or a feeling of intuition -- a sixth sense -- will almost overwhelm me and I know for certain that it will happen.
Today at exactly 11:30 a.m. I had an acute and overwhelming feeling that I was going to watch a man die today. All I could think was, "No, no, no, no, I don't want to see that..."
At exactly 4:30 p.m. today I watched a man die. I thought, "If I knew his name, I would say a prayer for him." I said one anyway.
Whoever that man was, his energy has gone back to the universe -- back to God, if you will. The people who love him will be devastated because he is gone from their lives. But he is not really gone, is he? What is the force of energy that divides living things from non-living? Some folks believe life force is a spiritual energy, others believe the line between living things and non-living is not so clearly defined. I am beginning to believe we are all connected -- anything made up of matter or energy. And we all have the ability to tap into this energy. I seem to be able to do it without even trying.
I never knew that man, and I had never seen him before today, but I knew what was about to happen to him. And I wish him God speed...
Each man's death diminishes me,
For I am involved in mankind.
Therefore, send not to know
For whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee. ~~~ John Donne

Oh my Lord, Jo, I can't imagine what you must be feeling right now. How blessed was this man to have you praying for him during that time...I am praying now for him and his family. I have had premonitions before but nothing quite as strong as that and I do believe we can tune into it if we choose to. You must be an easy spirit to connect with...take care dear one.
Oh, that's just awful. How fortunate that he had you to say a prayer. I don't think I tune into myself well enough to have such clarity as you describe having today. I do think that we are all made up of the same 'stuff.' All the 'stuff' that I'm composed of is the exact same "stuff' that makes up that tree outside. There is obviously a pretty strong message out there for this is not the only blog I've read today that touches on the connectedness of us all.
There is so much in this post I relate to, even resonate to, if I may be hippie-dippy for a moment. I have always believed that we are all connected, and also that energy can't disappear; it just transmutes when someone dies.
All the great spiritual teachers throughout the ages have said that when we hurt another, we hurt ourselves. That could only mean that we are all part of the same energy mass.
I have premonitions, too, without trying. I believe that we all have the capability, and the more we recognize and honor it, the more it develops.
I'm sorry for your pain in watching the end of an unknown life, but perhaps you shared a past-life connection with that man, or in some other way were a comfort to him, even if he didn't "see" you. He felt your presence, and knew that his end was witnessed. I'm sure it helped, along with the prayer you offered. We should all be so lucky when our time comes.
I believe that we all move on but we are never really gone and the spirit of those we have lost are the ones who give us comfort during difficult times. I hope I am right. Any death we hear of always manages to make our heart ache. Bless him and his family to have you praying for him...your a good person.
My daughter called me last week to tell me she witnessed the death of a man. She was in line, waiting to go into a concert and the man in front of her collapsed. Some decent people who happened to know CPR came forward and revived the man, called for an ambulance, but the man tried to get up and simply fell dead. She said there was a silence in the crowd as they all watched the efforts to once again revive the man, but he was gone. She said they shocked him over and over and it seemed as if lots of time passed. They finally pronounced him and removed the ambu bag through which the oxygen was flowing. She described how she felt like she was watching him leave his body as the oxygen was expelled from his mouth. Life in the physical sense is fragile.
Oh how very beautiful and true Jo..we are all interconnected..souls of scattered thoughts in this universe. Thats how we feel the rawness of someone else's pain. And the premonitions are the thread of that one soul of this universe which connects us all...
Wow Jo, that was a heavy experience. First to have the premonition and then to actually see it happen. I too, believe that we are all connected by energy and for some reason, you were meant to witness this man's death.
You are not alone in this Jo I have had these premonitions since I was a child. At first I found them very frightening and now I just accept them as part of who I am, this time around. Getting to the' this time around' took a bit of acceptance as well.
I am reeling vicariously from the shock of your experience.
I do get glimmers of that "all one" concept, and it feels natural and right to me. I used to have premonitions, I think . . . but they devolved into sort of a constant state of readiness for things around me to collapse, so I try to ignore them now.
I saw a man die once, when I was volunteering for Hospice. We were alone, and he just sat straight up in bed and reached for me. When he fell back, he was gone. It was traumatic, but it's a memory I will never forget. I feel for you.
Sometimes I wish I had the kind of "sight" that you do - but then other times I'm glad to be going about my business all oblivious.
Well said. I'm with you,.
Fascinating post, Jo! I believe we are all connected as well. As things begin to happen faster and faster we'll all begin to have more of these experiences. You are just more aware of the energy around you than most of us.
Nancy said it better than I was about to. I'm still a little stunned from reading this post.
I cannot imagine. It was good that you said a prayer for him. Even though you didn't know his name, I am sure God heard and knew who you meant.
You are right that we are all connected.
Jo, you express it so well, what many of us feel and have trouble communicating.
I feel exactly as you, that we are all interconnected. Not only with each other, but with all living things...the earth, the sky, the trees, as well. We all live symbiotically on this planet, which is our host, after all.
I,too, have felt these things, and believe that we can choose to "tune in" or "disconnect" as we see fit.
Most recently, I learned that the brother of a dear friend had suffered a massive stroke. I sat down to meditate and pray, and soon after, I was filled with the man's pain. I knew he had suffered the stroke on the right side of his brain, and great damage had been done to the left side of his body. I knew he was standing at a fork in the road deciding which way to go.
Two days later, I looked at the clock at 12:04 pm and thought, "Peace." About an hour later, I received a message from a mutual friend delivering the news that the man had been removed from life support and had passed on about thirty minutes ago.
John Donne had it exactly right...so do you.
I'm so sorry about your difficult day.
That's the God Power
Cheers
Stopping by to say Hello, Jo!
You wrote it all so well. I know exactly what you mean.
Now if only I could tune out all the bad energy.
