My Family, Edmund Tarbell, 1914
Is there a nice family out there who would like to adopt me? I'm housebroken, I'm clean and I don't bite -- well, hardly ever. And I'm so tired of the drama. I believe it is possible to go through life without constant anger, yelling, slamming down the telephone ... drama. It just goes on year after year after year... It can wear a person down, and the constant bickering can make a person feel anxious. One gets tired of feeling inferior, not "as good as". My mother used to say,
"Life is short, and you're dead a long time..." It's true, we only have today. We need to enjoy it. There are folks out there who go through life without any stress, tension or drama. I want to be one of them. All I would like is some serenity. I don't think that is too much to ask. Just serenity. No more drama. It's so tiresome. Enough, already.
it can and it does go on forever. Maybe we need a little getaway for awhile, a place to take a deep breath and remember why we love these darn people so very much!
ReplyDeleteYou can choose your friends...but not your family. We do love them but they are the ones who hurt us most!
ReplyDeleteone needs a room of one's own!

be careful what you wish for... these people in the family scene look rather bored.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful painting. I am there right now with in laws who are cause my family to be in danger. I think I am working with a crazy person without a heart.
ReplyDeleteLovely picture. I've always found that if I didn't live too close to my family that we got along better.
ReplyDeleteBut look closely at the expressions on the painted faces here. All look unhappy save the seamstress. One woman looks as if she is bereft, the children look as if they know better than to say anything except please and thank you.
ReplyDeleteLife is an illusion...
I hear you Jo, that's the very reason my husband disowned his family, too much drama. Life is too short for that crap. My opinion, just walk away....
ReplyDeleteJoJo, yes, it does go on forever, doesn't it? Year after year after year...
ReplyDeleteMomcat, and conversely, we are their family, and I am tired of feeling inferior. *sigh*
Cloudia, oh, yes, I love my solitude.
VioletSky, that's why I chose the picture. :-)
L.D. Your in laws are causing your family to be in danger? Oh, goodness -- good luck to you!
Mac n' Janet, yes, I have to keep my distance too. It's the only way to survive.
Maria, the picture struck a chord with me. That was why I chose it.
Arley, yes, I do have to keep my distance. I somehow become a lightning rod for everything.
The negative has this way of creeping under the skin and inhabiting everyone that it touches. It's amazing how much energy it takes to counter act it - even when we want it banished.
ReplyDeleteHang in there Jo!
Hi, Katy! Yes, I think some people thrive on calamity and crisis, even if they don't realize it. Their stress-o-meter is set way too high. I have a theory that some people even create chaos if things are going too well. Chaos is exciting, serenity is boring. I'll take boring. *heh*
