Trading Up...

Usually when people are looking to buy a new house, they try to trade up from their present living conditions to something a bit more upscale, perhaps with running water and electricity.

When folks want another car, they usually find something newer, perhaps with all the bells and whistles, in a color they like.

So, you have to wonder, what on earth was Jesse James thinking? He's married to a lovely, charming, talented, funny, beautiful, intelligent woman -- an Academy Award winner, for goodness sake -- who loved him; why would he cheat on her? What on earth makes some men do these things? Honestly, I just shake my head...

Maybe it's time for Sandra to trade up.

I agree...what was he thinking??!? I was reading an article today on the Academy Winners curse...seems that may be what happened here.

I love the new look of the blog...isn't it fun posting all the pics. take care Jo, from another Jo.

Hi, Jo! Yes, the curse of the Academy Awards. I read about that as well. It's very strangem isn't it?

The Bullock/James thing is quite upsetting, isn't it? <-- To say the least. Poor Miss Sandra, the sweetest heart shattered into so many little, tiny pieces by her true love. It's an impossible and impossibly painful, hurtful situation. If Sandra lets him, no matter how hard Jesse tries to sweep those pieces back together, some will remain missing. It will never ever be the same. Penises are not brains. God only knows why men choose to think with them.

I'll say something inspired by what I've recently read on another blog ("Bookish Blonde") .

Men aren't emotionally as evoklved as women. They'll probably end up being kept by women as pets for sex only.

DUTA said...

Sorry, the word is 'evolved' not 'evoklved'.

Maybe...just maybe it is time we all turned off the TV and let them work it out without the major media scrutiny? Maybe?

Great comparison and what a shock at the last photo.

I love your presentation. Hopefully an expert on the question of "Why men often trade down" will chime in here.

I remember seeing this guy on Celebrity Apprentice. He seemed a bit strange and wound pretty tight. He refused to talk about his wife and would not contact her or her friends to get donations -- something the other contestants did a lot.

I could see at that time he was attracted to people who were strongly independent and not conventional.

I don't know anything about this woman he was with but I am not surprised.

I am sorry for Sandra Bullock - she seems like a decent person. Everyone has to deal with life at times even if they are famous.

My heart broke for her. We'll never be a part of her life, but this should never happen, but it does all the time. It is sad that she is so well known 'publicly'.

DJan said...

I like your thought that maybe she needs to trade up. I think it's sad that men like him don't realize what a good thing is, but I've seen it numerous times, from far and near. I was amused by DUTA's comment, but maybe she's right!

Whitney Lee said...

I feel doubly sorry for her as she is having to deal with this personal blow under the public's eye. Men are idiots. Of course, in my experience, so are women. I'd say it's often an even match! I like the way you presented this!

This world is going to hell in a handbag.....and some of them have tattoos. That was meant to be a joke. haha. I don't know anything about either one of them on a personal level...just what the media reports. She appears to be the one that needs to trade up based on what we have been told. I agree with your analogy.

Oh my goodness, is that the woman in question? I take it her name is "Bombshell" McGee, which sounds like a cartoon villain. Oddly fitting.

Poor Sandra Bullock, she deserved better than to have someone she so clearly loved betray her.

However, and this is not a defense of Jesse James, it likely is a factor in what he was thinking: It's incredibly difficult for celebrities to keep a marriage together. When they are working, they are frequently away from home for months, and even over a year. It doesn't end with the shoot, and there's a publicity crawl afterward, that also takes them all over the country...which just gets worse when the movie is a hit.

So part of what he was likely thinking was that in marrying someone who is much more successful than he is -- which is sometimes hard for a guy -- he also married someone who wasn't going to be around much when things were going well for her.

I take it Bombshell McGee was more his type of woman in the past, also.

Poor Sandra Bullock.

So horrible for this to happen to anyone, most especially in the public eye. Some people just need to feel like they are better than who they are with and he seems to have hit the jackpot!

Sparkle, "It will never ever be the same. Penises are not brains. God only knows why men choose to think with them." That made me laugh out loud, but it is so true, isn't it???

Duta, "They'll probably end up being kept by women as pets for sex only." *CHUCKLE* I wonder if they'll have to be registered with the S.P.C.A.

Mark, well, that would mean having to turn off the computer, not read a newspaper or a magazine, not going to a movie. They are public figures, unfortunately, and they are public figures because we took an interest in them to begin with. They're rich because of us. So, taking an interest in their lives I believe is just human nature. I do hope things work out for them, though...

PurestGreen, I know! I mean, what was he thinking???

Bruce, if you look at Tiger Woods or John Edwards, et al, they all traded down!

Russell, yes, he does seem to be more in his element with the "tattooed lady" rather than with Sandra Bullock. Water finds its own level.

Linda, (I love your avatar, BTW...) And yes, unfortunately these folks are public figures because the public pays to watch them perform. So I think it is only natural that the public is shocked and saddened by this.

DJan, I often wondered what the attraction was for Sandra Bullock, but I thought he obviously had some qualities she liked. I'm disappointed that he let her down in such an awful way.

Whitney, oh, yes, some women can be just as bad. I had lunch with a co-worker yesterday, and she said several of her married women friends had had extra-marital affairs.

Brenda, I thought they were sort of a mis-matched couple, but I admired Sandra for choosing someone unconventional, as long as she loved him. How sad for her that he let her down so badly.

Alane, yes, "Hollywood" marriages don't seem to have a very long shelf life, I guess because they are apart so often, for long periods of time. And none of us know the circumstances of this couple's relationship. I was just shocked at the woman he chose over Sandra. But, again, he was reverting to type. That is the sort of woman he has been used to in his past. Oh, goodness...!

Laurie, "Doesn't he know what she's going to look like in...oh, 30 years or so, when all that ink starts to sag???" LOL...! I'm going to be spending the rest of the day trying to get that image out of my head. *heh* And isn't that house lovely? It's a house right here in Vancouver.

Kathy, oh, goodness yes...! It must have been intimidating for him to be with a beautiful, successful actress, so he needed to find someone who would make him feel superior. I'm not psychologist, but why else would he choose the tattooed lady???

Beauty has always been in the eye of the beholder, and what goes on behind closed doors in the lives of ALL THREE OF THESE PEOPLE is something neither the media or we (as observers) know much about.

I continue to boycott any and ALL magazines that focus on this tripe; all 'news storys' that feature this miserable gossip, and will not patronize any radio, television, or any kind of public media that thrives on bringing these private issues to the public's awareness.

I also know that we can only judge what's right for ourselves in our own lives, and not the lives of others.

Too often this sensationalism is ramped up to coincide with the big $$$$ it makes for all involved - even those that are supposedly the 'victim'....

Jo said...

Tom, yes, I think it's very sad.

Diane, well, I do understand what you're saying, but I don't completely agree. Sandra Bullock has had to cancel all upcoming public appearances, which indicates she is in a lot of pain. I like Sandra Bullock, and I am sad to see she is in so much pain. I think it is the human condition for any of us to feel empathy and compassion for someone in pain. Who knows -- she may be getting a lot of support from her fans, support that she might not otherwise be getting if everyone boycotted the news. Often when a public persona is going through a very bad time in their life, many times they will say afterwards that support from the public helped carry them through it. I do believe that most people are good.

Wow, this is true? If I was a man I'd be head over heels for Sandra Bullock... bad enough I have a little girl crush on her. Don't judge, I'm not gay it's more that I want to be just like her. She's adorable and makes me laugh. And lol @ Duta ..They'll probably end up being kept by women as pets for sex only. I'm all for that!

If you look at all the women Jesse James has been with, the mothers of his children, they resemble his mistress more than they do his wife. I feel sorry for Sandra Bullock and I really feel sorry for Jesse's children who have come to know Sandra as a mother figure.

I do hope it call gets sorted out, what ever that looks like to them.

Alissa Grosso said...

I've heard that she has received a big outpouring of support from fans, which is nice. My guess is Jesse isn't getting this same support. So hopefully she realizes that there's nothing wrong with her, and that he's the one with the problem.

I'm with DUTA! Seriously, some men are just greedy! They can't be happy with that one special someone. They have to have several special someones! You know, the more the merrier, mindset? My heart goes out to Sandra! She does need to trade up!

Belizegial said...

I sympathize with the injured parties and wish her well. She is still a sassy, beautiful AND successful woman at the end of every day albeit with a broken heart. Hope she bounces back quickly from this episode in her life.
Happy Weekend Jo and I like the new look on your blog.

Seriously. I had the same thought but didn't put it as eloquently as you did. His last wife was a porn actress, don't forget. I think it's really true that water seeks its own level and all the dams in the world won't keep him on Sandra's.

It may also be true that nobody ever has it all, no matter how it looks.

heartinsanfrancisco said...

I just read through the other comments and I have to take issue with whoever said that men are not as evolved as women. I am not willing to write off an entire gender because some of them are sub-par.

Burcu said...

You know Jo, some Men can't carry the success of their women. Or better say, these succesful and clever women are too much for them.
I am really sorry for her.
Thanks for your presentation.

Carl, yes, so am I.

Nezzy, oh, goodness, no. :-)

Charlene, I know! Everyone loves Sandra Bullet. Well, it's too sad.

Katy, well, I feel very bad for both of them, and yes I do hope they get it sorted out.

Alissa, yes, she has had a lot of support. Everyone likes her.

PinkPanthress, I agree. Marriage should be exclusive. Poor Sandra!

LadyCat, it would seem so!

Marguerite, yes, I guess some men do think differently, but I feel so bad for Sandra.

Enid, thank you. And yes, I would imagine everyone involved is feeling just awful right now.

Susan, one would hope that most men are decent. I have usually found that to be so. I think the men like Jesse James, Tiger Woods, John Edwards, et al, are in the minority.

Burcu, I think in their case, that must be a big part of it. Sandra Bullock is extremely successful, and that must be difficult for her husband. It's like the movie "A Star is Born".

Donnetta, yes. :-)

Pondering Sandra Bullock's and Cate Winslet's domestic woes, it occurred to me that I have never heard of a MALE recipient's wife not being able to handle a spouse's success. I'm just saying.

Jo said...

Susan, oh goodness, yes...! Good observation. Jeff Bridges' wife looked as pleased as punch that he won, and I'll bet she won't be storming off in a huff. :-)

Absolutely loved this post, especially the old house and the old car (maybe I'll leave out the "old" woman), they looks like something from my dream house and dream car series... wonderful... and you are so right, what is it with these folks like Tiger Woods or Jesse James ? Just can't be happy with what they have already, and have to have more...

Jo said...

Owen, thank you. :-) I had fun putting those images together. And yes, goodness, what is it with those men? I just don't understand it...!
