The Truth Is Out There...

Do you ever have completely insane dreams, and you wake up the next morning and think ... "What the h*ll...?" I have been doing that a lot lately. The other night I dreamt I was in a tsunami. It's sort of a recurring dream, because I was once actually in a tsunami and it was very frightening. Last night I dreamt I was walking along the banks of the Somass River in Port Alberni, and I was with David Duchovny. We were on a high cliff, and I was showing him how crystal clear the water was. He leaned over a little too far, and I said "Careful, don't fall in..." and just at that moment he fell head first over the cliff and into the water. There was a group of people picnicking on the shore, and I hollered at them "Call 911! Call 911!" And then I woke up.

David Duchovny...!?

David Duchovny doesn't cross my mind from one year to the next -- I have never even watched "The X Files" and it was filmed here in Vancouver -- how did he get into my dream? And why were we walking along the banks of the Somass River?

I also dreamt last night that I was caught in a huge blizzard. I had gone shopping for groceries, and while I was in the store, snow had started falling. As I went outside, the wind was howling and the snow was knee deep. I remember trudging across the road thinking, "Why didn't I wear my boots?"

Where do we go when we dream? The scientific explanation for dreams is that the synapses in our brains are processing things that have occurred during the day. In his book "The Interpretation of Dreams", Sigmund Freud once called our dreams, "The royal road to the unconscious." He also said, "... every dream will reveal itself as a psychological structure, full of significance, and one which may be assigned to a specific place in the psychic activities of the waking state." I do believe there is a scientific reason for our dreams. But why for goodness sake was I dreaming about David Duchovny?

The truth is out there...

Because of meds i take, i have some wild, wacky, noisy, acting-out type of dreams. I talk in my sleep ... usually it's profane ... (LOL, not how I express myself while awake). Last night I dreamt I was fighting someone ... some girl. In my dream I was kicking her ... LOL ~ turns out I was really kicking in my sleep.

Haha. Not sure what that means ... but one thing's for sure, the one who shares my bed will want a helmet or some sort of body armour pretty soon.

LOL.

The subconscious mind is a twisted and amusing place, ain't it?

Clearly you were both abducted by aliens and you are slowly recovering the memory of the lost weekend that you spent with David Duchovny. Try going through an airport metal detector and you will find that they implanted a metal tracker in your brain.

That will be 1 kg of walnuts as payment for professional nut analysis by the nut experts - squirrels.

That's a pretty crazy dream, Jo! Very interesting, too. I rarely remember my dreams, now, but had very vivid recurring dreams, as a child. Too bad that he had to go over the cliff! lol

The common denominator of a tsunami and a blizzard is that they are both extreme acts of nature over which you (we) have no control. I would start with that and try to figure out what makes you feel powerless in your life. As for David Duchovny, you warned him but had no effect, again no POWER to save him although you tried.

You actually have a lot of personal power, however. Your blog is important to many people who come to read your truth every day.

I loved The X-Files, probably believe that there is more to the world than what we see every day. When I saw the heading for the post I already heard The X-Files theme song in my head.

Once I'd been tried to read the Freud...but it was very difficult to understanding...I guess the Beautiful Dreamer makes their the Beautiful Dreams...

I wouldn't mind dreaming about Al Pacino, but Duchovny? Really Jo, no actor, no personality, nada.

I don't know who David whateverhis lastnameis -- never heard of him. But, then again, I live in a cave I guess.

Maybe he is a good looking, dashing guy and he was there to rescue you from the blizzard and tsunami -- sort of the knight in shining armor analogy.

No, wait! YOU were the one who saved HIM!

I don't think there is a lot of logic to dreams in many cases. I do think they often are the result of something we were thinking about during the day. Sometimes a dream seems to come from something we saw on TV.

Hahahah....you have the best commenters here Jo. You must choose the subjects that bring out the best in us or ones that we can relate to. Tinkerbell talked about the meds causing dreams...I had that experience also because of meds at one time. I was running in my sleep but I was actually running in bed and would wake my husband. The lone grey squirrel really had me laughing, and I have never seen the x-files, so I felt like Russell also. Cave dweller here also...
Funny thing is that I rarely dream, unless I have taken meds to help me sleep. The other night I dreamt I was trying to escape out of a box, as if I were being born....odd to try and explain. I woke up and told my husband...so that is how I got here. I was shipped here from another planet or something...ha.

I adore dreaming because it is always so crazy and interesting. When I wake up, I'm usually disappointed.

I love to think about what dreams might mean. I also think that both the tsunami and the blizzard are natural events we can't control. I dreamed last night that the wind (which has been blowing) blew down all my bird feeders and someone had replaced them with decorations. This could be because of my last two posts pondering the ethics of feeding the birds.

I love dreams! Mine are usually funny and crazy, full of people I've known at different points in my life. They're almost always positive. That said, I really do think we work out issues subconsciously in our dreams, not sure how, but I think we do.

That does not explain, however, how I woke up literally screaming at 5am on the morning of 9/11 after having dreamed that my dog and I were attacked by a bizarre looking street person in long robes who I later realized was Osama Bin Laden...a person I had never even heard of or seen up to that point. That is a dream that haunts me to this day.

Could your disturbing dreams come from all the depressing movies you have watched recently?

JeannetteLS said...

Okay, so you've BEEN in a tsunami, which is probably like living through something on another planet, hence David Duchovny, who was in a show about alien beings, and you regained control by making people call 911, but the blizzard dream is the important one because you were not wearing boots and you were in a blizzard. You are channeling everyone's mother... Forget that you were caught in a blizzard, you were a NINNY, missy, and did not wear your BOOTS. You had absolute control in both these situations. Don't know why the river, but maybe that's a safe place and suddenly wasn't, but YOU took charge just fine...

I can't help it. I Just love the part where you're thinking "Why didn't I wear my boots?"

Or maybe you just had some crazy dreams and heard the theme from Duchovny's show or something. I love it when I remember my nutso dreams.

Your blog is so much fun, Jo. I just never know what I'll find.

I Don't know why you dreamt of him, but I sure like his movie "Return to Me", although it isn't because of his acting. ;-)

You must have eaten something good, good before you went to bed.

This week I dreamed I was getting married. Everyone in the wedding party including was wearing purple. Tacky purple lacey dresses. My mother was officiating the ceremony & I told her do not pronounce us husband and wife.

I am very interested in dreams, so when someone posts about the topic it catches my eye. I have done several posts about dreaming.
Like some of the others, if I had a dream about David Duchovny I wouldn't recognize him, although I do find that in my dreams I automatically know who someone is or someone tells me who it is. The world of dreams is a fascinating place to go and I almost always enjoy it.

David Duchovny.. it too me a while to place him. :) Dreams can be weird.

My daughter talks in her sleep sometimes, the things she says are hilarious and sometimes, its just creepy...

Susan said...

Perhaps David Duchovny was also dreaming about you. Now wouldn't THAT be something?

KrippledWarrior said...

I enjoy my dreams. The weirder the better. They are like a 3D movie with surround sound. Do ask why. Enjoy the show!
And maybe you remember Mr Duchoveny from his appearances as a transvestite FBI agent on "Twin Peaks"

Once a dreamer, always a dreamer. So I guess that includes all of us.

One of my 'strange' dreams, more of a nightmare really, is I'm reversing my car down a hill and the speed increases every second. And I cannot stop the darn car!

The brakes do not work - and I just hurtle down this hill, faster and faster - then nothing!

Sweet dreams all.

How very interesting to read, as far too many times dreamed sights, which a couple of days appeared in front of me eyes, while being awake.
Agree with you that far too many times something remains in reality which has been seen before.
Wishing you nice dreams though and a wonderful Friday as well.

PhilipH -- was the car a Toyota?
I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought that:)

You are so funny Jo! I love reading your posts. Maybe it is the residual energy leftover from X-files being filmed there LOL. Some of the weirdest and most interesting dreams I have dreamed are when I dream in another lanquage and also when I have been in the 1/2 awake 1/2 asleep state (which I love) and I am thinking in that other language, a language that I have no knowledge of, none, so more remains to be seen....

Tinkerbell, omigosh, you must have to wake up to get some rest...!

LGS, LOL...! I do think I saw a grey face with little black eyes looking in through the window just before I went to sleep. Was it an alien? Maybe it was a little grey squirrel. :-)

Marguerite, I sure hope they rescued him. I don't know, I woke up. :-)

Susan, awww... thank you. I did find it interesting that both my dreams involved water. I wonder what that means...

Firefly, you know, that was filmed here in Vancouver, and I occasionally saw the actors. "Cigarette man" lives near my place. :-)

Nomore, I can't understand Freud either, and I believe he has been discredited now.

Duta, LOL!!! Al Pacino? Yes...!

Russell, yes, I think sometimes things we don't even pay any attention to often creep into our dreams. And then again, our dreams can be very (!!!) vivid.

Brenda, wow! Interesting dream! I usually forget my dreams, but occasionally they are so realistic, I can't forget them.

B&B, I know! Sometimes (often!) my dreams are more fun that my real life. *heh*

DJan, my goodness! Maybe your subconscious is trying to tell you something. I think that may be a reason for some dreams too.

Laurie, that story about your dream about Osama bin Laden made the hairs on my arms stand up on end. Holy doodle...!

Blue Ridge Mountains, my goodness, you have a point there! I had not thought of that. And of course, an actor is in one of the dreams.

Jeanette, *chuckle* I was so shocked to see the knee-deep snow, and all I could think was how stupid I was not to wear my boots. How silly is that!?

Jo said...

Jennifer D, I LOVED that movie. Omygosh, I had forgotten about that. With Minnie Driver. Wasn't that a sweet movie?

Kimberly, purple dresses? Omigosh, that wasn't a dream, that was a nightmare. *heh*

Lee, I often meet my mother or my father (and sometimes both) in my dreams. It's always very real, and very nice. And I always remember the next day.

Katy, that would be eerie to hear someone talking in their sleep. Sometimes people walk in their sleep, and even cook and eat. Can you imagine?

Susan, David Duchovny dreaming about me? Well, I hope he isn't mad at me for letting him fall off a cliff into the Somass River. :-)

KrippledWarrior, I LOVED Twin Peaks, but I don't remember David Duchovny in that. Was that him??? I do dream in 3D and in color, though. Apparently we are not supposed to dream in color, but I think we definitely do.

Philip, oh, that's awful...! Don't you just hate recurring dreams like that? I once had a dream I was trapped in a crashing bus. *shudder*

Robert, you had waking dreams? I have heard of those, but I have never experienced them. You must have been very tired, and sleep deprived. Interesting!

McIndesm, you dream in another language??? Whoa, that is interesting! Holy doodle!!!

David Duchovny?

I once had a dream I was having sex with John Major, the British Prime Minister and enjoying it.

I woke up and sat bolt upright - John Major!!!???

Dreams are bizarre.

I just couldn't find any explanations for my dreams; sometimes I would be flying like superman and sometimes I would be running. There were times when I were dreaming of snakes all over the house.

Jo said...

Wolynski, John Major??? *heh* Oh, goodness...!

Symphony of Love, I have had dreams (nightmares?) of snakes too. It's horrible, isn't it?

Hmmm, very interesting! I think Duchovny is more a distraction than having an actual meaning. You talked about "tsunami", Duchovny "fell head first" and "falling" snow - sometimes that can be a message of being or feeling overwhelmed? Just a guess.
