Sophie

I always vowed that the two things I would never post here on my boring-little-blog were recipes, or pictures of cats. The blogs are inundated with recipes and pictures of cats. Most of the recipes are ho-hum, and most of the cats are ~~ meh ~~ to say the least. But I have the world's funniest, cutest, sweetest, most affectionate cat visiting me right now, and she makes me laugh. She's fascinated with the laundry. As soon as I turn the machine on, she's over there like ... well ... a dirty shirt, watching in rapt, feline attention as the clothes tumble around in the soapy water.  It keeps her happy for hours.  For the most part, cats can sometimes be sort of ~~ independent.  They're not like dogs.  Cats don't come running when you call them; they would much rather take their own sweet time.  And when they do, they pretend not to be very interested in why you called them.  They'll stretch and yawn and look very bored.  "What does she want now...?"  But they're actually a lot of fun, when they so choose.  Sophie has made a thorough inspection of every house plant in my apartment, gazing into the soil for whatever might be living in there.  She has tested all the chairs, and has chosen a favourite one for sleeping.   And for some reason she loves to sit and watch me put on my makeup.  "What on earth is that lady doing to her face...?"  But her favourite activity, by far, is to sit and watch the laundry.  Well, as they say, whatever floats your boat...

Sophie is a cutie, no doubt. And that is a cool picture of her: even from behind you can see her rapt attention.

Don't apologize about the cat. I'm a lifelong cat lover, and she looks like a fine specimen!

Hey, as we all know, watching the laundry is probably much better for her than watching t.v. You get to post whatever you want... and it always works out well for us. How IS it that we can tell she is totally enthralled, just from her cat-body language?

I dare not buy a front loaded washer... I'd be sitting right there with the cat.

Cats are so much fun! I'm a big fan of both cats and dogs. :)

If I had home laundry machines, I would sit on the floor for hours watching, too. Do you remember in Peanuts when Linus sat in front of the washer, thumb in mouth, watching his blankie go by? Or perhaps I'm remembering my own children.

It's ok to post about your kitty as long as no baby talk is employed.

I miss my old cat. His favorite activity was tormenting the dogs with his tail. My favorite activity was him kneading my shoulders with his clawless paws every night when I sat down to watch TV.

One of my cats DOES indeed come when I call, well anybody, him, the dog, the other 2 cats, nobody in general... My other 2 cats, one comes sometimes, other times she comes partway and starts hollering for me to come meet her halfway, and my 3rd cat is deaf, but if she's looking at me and I waggle my fingers in her general direction, she comes to see me & get scratches.

Sophie is clearly an excellent specimen of a cat. My mother-in-law has the same kind of washer and I remember visiting and washing my son's blankie and he did the same as the cat ... sat and watched until it was done.
