The Ultimate Luxury...

It's Saturday morning, which means only one thing at my house -- it's time to vacuum. I hate detest despise don't like vacuuming. If someone wanted to torture me, putting lighted matches under my fingernails would be a distant second to vacuuming.  There are folks who vacuum every day, can you imagine?  Voluntarily.  And I have known real live, living, breathing people who said they actually enjoy vacuuming.  I should invite them over on Saturday mornings.

The folks who live upstairs from me having a cleaning lady. *sigh* If I were to win a lottery, the first thing I would do is hire a cleaning lady.  The second thing I would buy is a robot vacuum cleaner.  And then I could sit back in my big cozy chair while the little guy zipped around and did all the work.  Besides, he's rather cute; he reminds me of the little fellow in "Batteries Not Included".  What's not to love about a vacuum cleaner like that?

Doesn't this look like fun?

My friend Anne has a Rumba, I think it's called. She got it when she and her husband sold the big house and bought a one level condo. She loves it!

I had a domestic period when I dusted and vacuumed almost every day but fortunately I got over it.

My husband and I divvied up chores before we got married. He's in flooring so I decided he should do the floors as I'd never clean them to his satisfaction anyway. It's several years later and he still likes to tell the story about how, 6 months or so into the marriage, I called him to ask where the vacuums on switch could be found.

Now that I am a stay at home mom with a large dog who sheds, I am more than happy to sweep the floors most days (I have a kid who is young enough to put anything he may find in his mouth), but I still don't vacuum.

You could always start a little savings account for your very own magical vacuum;) Or maybe start sending letters to Santa.

Have you seen my ode to my vacuum cleaner? I think I might have called it a blue beast or devil or some such. Oh how I hate to vacuum - I think we must be soul sisters in that area for sure :)

My dad bought his wife a roomba for Christmas. We all laughed because he's the vacuumer in the house, not her. They both love it - although it apparently takes a LONG time before it thinks it's done & heads to its home base.

I don't mind vacuuming. It is dusting that I hate.
I would probably turn on the Roomba just for the sheer fun of watching it hitting things and turning around!

I think it's because my mother put me out to clean houses for our neighbors when I was 11, that I learned to LOVE cleaning, and if I've got my classical music going, I love it even more.

I even have certain CD's that go with different rooms in the house, so that when I'm energetic in my scrubbing, the music is gloriously grand and intricate.

When I'm dusting all my antique pieces, I have Debussy's compositions playing so I'll slow down and handle everything carefully.

When I'm vacuuming, I have the 1812 Overture playing; something that I can turn up and overcome the sound of the sweeper.

Then when I'm all done, it's a warm bath with lavender soap; minerals from the dead sea, and a candle burning while I listen to Beethoven and Brahms.

As to cleaning every day, I did for 45 years, but now there's not enough dust and dirt to require it, which gives me more time to enjoy other things such as reading your blog....:-)

If you won the lottery, you could sit back and watch the CLEANING LADY watch the robot vacuum! LOL What are you doing with K this weekend?

Dear Jo, how to make you *hate* me, when we have only just met... My husband does the vacuuming around here. :-)

See, we are "olden," and we do the cleaning together. He wrestles with the vacuum, and he cleans the tile and wood floors too. I do the other stuff.

And funny you say Saturday. When I grew up, Sat. was cleaning day and I hated it. So I don't want it to be my cleaning day. Silly hu? :-)

Gentle hugs,
.♥.

Is that lady from Nevada for real?
My husband and I share most of the chores around the house. I also have a women who comes in every other week and cleans as I am unable to stand for long. That is why I love the vacuum, it holds me up;

I don't mind vacuuming if I can tell when I'm done that I've done it. But I have an every-other-week housekeeper, so it doesn't happen often.

I'm not too keen on mopping, though.

I've always wanted one as well. I understand now they have one that mops for you too!

I hate mopping almost as much as vacuuming!

I hate vacuuming, dusting, washing floors, cleaning toilets and ovens, and hauling laundry out to a launderette, but I do all these things. I don't do them very well, however, except for the laundry.

Your big flowered chair and I could become very good friends. Just saying.

Adopt the Quentin Crisp (The Naked Civil Servant)system:

Don't dust, or vacuum, or clean in general.

He maintained that after a couple of years one does not notice dust and suchlike.

Great old chap. Lived his remaining decade or so in a rough part of New York - and they loved him there even more than those in London!

Vacuuming's OK - at least you see the result (if you only do it once in two weeks). It's cleaning the oven and it's window and windows in general that gets me. The South-Easter in Cape Town blows them filthy all the time. I like ironing - an excuse to watch a movie all the way through!

I love that little guy from "Batteries not included", great movie! I would need my
robot to clean dishes. I hate dishes.
I just read the blog post below before I read about your feelings toward vacuuming and thought you might like it.
Quite a co-inky-dink I say. ;0)
