La Mer

What do you call it when you have a particular song that goes through your head -- over and over and over -- for days, weeks, months...? It's called an "earworm", I believe, although that is a rather unfortunate choice of words. I have had the same song going through my head, on and off, for several weeks. Fortunately, it is one of my favorite songs, but enough is enough. I'm fortunate that I live beside the ocean, and I spend a lot of time strolling on our wonderful beaches, whenever I have the opportunity. And when I do, I always have this song going through my head. So here you are, my lucky friends, I will share with you my "earworm". Enjoy!

This often happens to me and what makes it really bad is that without realising it, I sometimes sing or whisle along. Aargh!

Very sweet tune. I'd not heard it before.

When i get a tune in my head & want to get rid of it i usually try to replace it with something else! Works often enough for me.

Earworm! Better than an earwig, i guess. LOL

If you are interested, i'm having a give away this week.

Yes I remember that one Jo. And I remember as a teenager that I ordered it at Fletcher's music store in Port, where we ordered pop song records one at a time and they were 78 rpm. I was so happy when my order of La Mer arrived! That was a few years ago. :-)

Never heard the expression "earworm" before. My sister used to find that anytime she hummed or whistled it ended up being "Yellow Submarine." This went on for several years. I will have to ask her if this is still the case.

Oh darn, now I have an earworm...lol.Thanks a lot!

Jo, if that's the version from French Kiss , then it is likely Kevin Kline singing. He recorded it for the movie :-)

Oh the strange things you learn when sitting around, watching the credits roll on a movie.

Figured I'd add some trivia to your earwor!

And that other chesnut, Three Penny Opera.
Shades of Bobby Darin!
He also did La Mer.

...I guess that dates us.

A Human Kind of Human, I like your new Avatar! And yes, I sing along too. *heh*

Kathryn, isn't it lovely? It is one of my favorite songs, thanks goodness, because it replays over and over in my head. :-) I will be over to see what you are giving away. *heh*

Sharon, oh, goodness I remember Fletcher's yes! And I remember Jerry Borgen used to work there. That was not far from your parents' store. :-)

Alissa, now I have Yellow Submarine going through my head. *heh, heh*

Alicia, oh, gosh, I'm so sorry...! I love to share. *heh*

Alane, "French Kiss" is my favorite movie. I love the scene in the rail car, where Kevin Kline kisses Meg Ryan accidentally. I watch the movie every time it's on, just to hear Kevin Kline sing "La Mer" at the end. :-)

Ivan, I rather like Bobby Darin's version of it too. I heard it just recently.

I love French Kiss too! Meg Ryan is so insane - but Kevin Kline really makes the movie for me. Sigh. I think we own the DVD - might have to watch it one day this week...

Oooh. You only just heard that version.
Still a young chick, says old crow :)

The Bug, I think I own the DVD somewhere too. I own the soundtrack as well. :-)

Ivan, I have heard Bobby Darin's version before as well. It's great!

Here I thought I would come on and mention, just casually of course, that oh, yes, that IS Kevin Kline singing Le Mer ... but you and Land of Shimp already mentioned it! Heh!

Okay. Meg Ryan. Kevin Kline. Has to be good. Let me add this to my list of movies I must see.

Gee... that list is sure getting long!

Russell, I can guarantee you -- you will love this movie. It's wonderful and funny.

I love that movie too, Jo! It also has one of my favorite visual gags of all time. Meg Ryan's character, sobbing into the phone, and then raising her fist, "I will triumph!" Cut to the shot of her the Arc De Tiomphe looming in the background. Gets me every time.

That and, "That. Just. Makes. Me. Insane!" in the hotel lobby. Hehehe. Fun movie.

We beat Russel to the trivia punch, but I have to laugh because...Russel, you knew that without benefit of having seen the movie, so you still "Triumph!"

I just watched that movie for the first time not long ago. Very good movie and I do love the song.

Alane, I love the scene in the hotel lobby where she is hiding behind the pasty cart, spying on her "ex" and his new girlfriend. Oh, goodness... *heh*

Brenda, it's a really fun movie, sin't it?

This is my first visit to your Blog and I love it, especially this song and where you live. I am envious. We moved from the coast of California to the Sacramento area 27 years ago. Both of our families still live in the Bay Area so we visit what we love and miss, the coast. Thanks for sharing the beauty. Too bad that I have to leave your Blog for now, but will come back to it later when we get home from shopping. I have something wonderful to look forward to later, I am going to listen to this song, and continue on to older posts and maybe sneak in the movie "French Kiss", as I have it in my collection of movies.
