I'm So Stupid

Just when you think life is simple, it gets complicated. Blogger had a function called "followers" which I really like, because you can click on any one of the followers on your blog, and the link takes you back to their blog. It's a great way to move back and forth. Except ... this evening Blogger changed the functionality of it. So, I clicked on "followers" and was going to visit some people, et voila!, "followers" added me -- as a follower of my own blog. And the worst part is, not only do I look stupid following my own blog, I can't remove myself. I'm stuck there with my silly mug shot picture smiling out at the world -- as a follower of my own blog.

*sigh*

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's been one of those days...

Now ... does anyone know a good plumber? Remember when the toilet roll thingmabob fell down the toilet?

And today it snowed. It's turning into one of those weeks...

If you look on the "Blogs I'm Following" tab on your dashboard, there's a place that says "manage" at the bottom. Click that, find your blog on the list, click settings, and on the left side it should say "stop following this blog".

I think that should work!

I was just going to ditto Stephanie. That should do the trick.

But, hey, you've got to believe in yourself, right? Actually, I have seen quite a few bloggers following themselves, teehee.

I think the new followers widget is so ugly. Wish they would have given us a choice!

You're not stupid Jo, sometimes websites aren't so "user friendly". I've been there!

Thanks for the recommendation, that is a wonderful blog!

I would laugh, but it sounds like something I would do. My son is a computer geek and works in tech support, so I would have frantically called him to fix it.

Hi Jo, yes, it IS one of those weeks! lol! I have called in sick again today, the 2nd day in a row this week, with the nastiest cold I've had in a couple of years. The last one was almost exactly two years ago at this time in February. Can't wait for Feb to be over and see the beginning of Spring (even if it's only on the calendar!).

Good luck with your plumbing issues!

I have found that following my own anonymously works the best for me, as that way it shows up in the stream, but my mug shot doesn't show up on my blog, which just looks silly.

Willow - you should be able to remove the Followers widget on your blog. Go to Layout>Page Elements and select Edit, then Remove, then Ok.

Last but not least, you should be able to check up on your followers to "visit" them. From your Blogger Dashboard, to the right of your blog it should say "# Followers." You can click on that and it takes you to a place from which you can wander amongst them with ease.

What's wrong with a little self love? :)

I was a little surprising to find the changes this morning. I am going to have to get used to the new look.

Peace - Rene

well, it doesn't matter for those of us who are dumber than you about technology. We couldn't figure out that you were following your own blog anyway.

Living in cramped apartments, I not only lose the toilet roll, but step into toilet bowls all the time.
It must be a talent.

lol! that sure sounds like something I would do! I was just going to tell you what Stephanie said.

In fact, I had to take myself off all the blogs I was following because I have a blog that is a private journal and for some reason, even though I had it marked as only the "author can read", if you clicked onto the followers, it would bring the person to my private journal--it wouldn't block them out. Until I could figure out how to be a "follower" without being followed to my private journal blog...I can't be on the list.

Just thought I'd tell you that so you would realize why I took my name off your followers list. I'm still coming around to read as often as possible. ;-)

I refreshed my screen like 5 times today thinking there was something screwy with my browser...but no...it's blogger messing around with updates. I may drop Follow if it is going to turn into a Facebook kind of thing (note the Google friends part of it now).

I've got to agree with Willow about the totally ugly new widget. And Jo, this was funny! And you are probably the least "stupid" person I've ever "met".
I'm all about the quotes today!

Hey, there's nothing wrong with leading the followers of your own blog. It makes the blog look even more worth following.

Glad to have all the tips in your comment section. I have the same problem with widgets. You're not stupid!

I don't like the look of that new widget :(

Omigosh! That was the first thing I noticed when I got online FINALLY. Who said they could just arbitrarily change things on my blog anyway? That's just RUDE! LOL.

Unknown said...

I guess you've tweaked it out already... I can't see your face around the followers widget.

Jo, this same thing happened to me. As I sit here I am following myself on my own blogs, feeling moronic, and have no idea how to fix this! Why did they fix something that wasn't broken?
