C'est Fini ... My Antique Coffee Pot ...

Well, here it is -- the finished product -- the drawing of my little battered, antique coffee pot. This little pot has been through the wars, and almost did not survive. My mother and my sister-in-law made coffee in it one day, and sat chatting while it boiled dry and scorched. But I saved it and brought it back to life. For some strange reason it is one of my little treasures, and has a place of honor in my kitchen.

I had so much fun drawing it, I'm looking around for more items to draw. It's really the simple, everyday things in our lives that touch a chord with me. I'll never paint the grand masterpiece, but I enjoy sketching little found objects. This was done with colored pencil, pastel and charcoal. I rather like it.

Have a great Sunday, everyone.

Love the drawing! And really, you should only draw what you want, otherwise it becomes a chore.

It did turn out lovely. I also will never paint a masterpiece, but I do enjoy painting my greeting cards.

Nicely done, Jo!

You should frame that and hang it in your kitchen! Very nice, and had I not known that you were drawing it, I might have thought it was a photo!

These familiar, everyday objects connect us to all our memories, nurture us in so many ways. I'm collecting tea towels, hand-embroidered ones, reminding me of my childhood, my mother's things.

You have done a wonderful job on this drawing. Mixing media is fun as each material helps to fit the part that you are working on in the drawing.

It's utterly charming, and the coffee pot is adorable, too. The perfect red. You are a wonderful artist - I also can't wait to see what your next subject will be.

Jo, if there is one thing I truly wish I could do it is draw, or paint. How much fun you must have had! It's lovely and, this will sound strange, but I love that your rendering reflects the personality of the little pot. It's just that, the way you drew the light reflecting, and the dimensions, he looks very determined, and sturdy.

Doesn't that pot look like he could brew some fabulous coffee over a camp fire?

I've always loved artwork, photographs, paintings. They tell wonderful stories.

Well stumped :-)

A noble coffee pot, if ever there was one... a survivor. And now immortalized in art, and virtual art... the coffee pot heard round the world !

One of the best gifts we can give our children and someday-heirs is: 1)to clear the material clutter from our lives and 2) to leave some indication of why the stuff we did choose to keep was important to us. Through your drawing and your post you have done that....and have given them a connection to your mother as well.

I have a thing for old things like this. I have a tin container and cup that my grandmother used to take coffee in to the fields for my grandfather. It may mean nothing to other people, but to me it means a lot.

I can totally see why this coffeepot is special, especially when you tell it's story and then illustrate it!A treasure indeed.

I envy you for your gift of drawing. I take pictures of things that mean something to me ( for example I took pictures of my mother's clothes before I gave them to charity), but drawing, painting - that's a higher level.

The red coffee pot is charming. It deserves its delicate and skillful drawing done by your loving hands.

Great job - the reds are such a close match! And now if the pot scorches, you'll have its memory hanging on the wall :)

At first I thought it was a photo, then I enlarged it and enjoyed your lovely creation. You have so many talents, and I am blessed to be able to share them, thanks to your wonderful blog.

I love finding these everyday treasurs and imagining the stories of the people who used them. Great drawing. So many stories are told.
