Never judge a book by its cover. You may be very surprised at what lies beneath the surface. Unless you have been on the dark side of the moon for the past few days, you have probably seen
this video by now. But just in case you have not seen it, you are in for a wonderful surprise and a treat. Because of its popularity, YouTube has disabled the embedding capability, so click on the link, and enjoy. I guarantee, you'll be knocked right out of your socks.

Thanks for sharing this video. I too posted about this songbird on my blog today. I found it so beautiful that I wept.

It's amazing to think that there are hugely talented people out there and you don't know it. They could be your neighbour or working in your local shop.
I tear up every time I even hear ABOUT this, much less watch the video again - can't wait to hear her followup song.
BTW - I answered the interview questions (finally). Nothing very inspired, but I enjoyed the exercise!
WOW! I'm speechless. What a voice! What a surprise! Thank you Jo for the hint. She is amazing!
You beat me to this one by hours Jo! Fantastic...How I love to see unexpected talent excel....How I love it when we truly are shown we cannot judge a person by appearance. Hoorah!!
Linda
I really liked all the shocked looks she got - and the smirks from all the pretentious snobs that turned to looks of amazement. Yay!
I apparently have been on the dark side of the moon...
What a truly lovely moment. An inspiration in more than one way. A beautiful reminder to never give up on dreams; a reminder that our dreams don't have expiration dates. And, as you wrote, don't judge a book by it's cover. It'd be nice if society would quit being surprised when the less classically beautiful people also possess talent.
Thank you for sharing.
Wasn't that amazing? It's great fun to see this video more than once.
I just read another blog about this very women. What an amazing woman. Thanks for the link, I was trying to find it!
I saw this earlier this week and was amazed by Susan's voice. If you know her life story, you must believe that it's now her turn to shine in the spotlight. Stunning voice and high-spirited personality.
i posted her video on my blog too earlier and i can't help watching it over and over again... :)
A new recording she made 10 years ago for a charity CD has been found by a Scottish newspaper. If you Google "Susan Boyle+Cry me a River" you'll get to it, plus more stories about her. Unbelievable the beautiful sultry voice she has in this one, singing a great blues song.

I remember watching her on tv a short while ago.i loved seeing the smirks fading from the judges faces once she opened her mouth. it paints a sad but true picture of todays society. we criticize people before giving them a chance- a result of our own insecurities.

Oh Yes, Ma'am. I really didn't know about it, if not for my daughter. See my counter blog report

I am so happy. I am so thrilled.
Good on Ya Susan.
Score one for the little guys and gals of the world. We can't all be size 0 with perfect cheekbones. I love it that even obnoxious Simon was wowed.
I saw that a few days ago and my heart just leapt! I watched it twice because it just made me smile so much. In a world where bad news, satire, and sarcasm are passed perpetually as entertainment (and don't get me wrong, it IS funny), it was so nice to have something so uplifting passed on to me. Everyone I know who has seen it feels the same. : )
I've watched the video over and over. I love Susan's voice! I'm a fan!
She seems like a nice woman who has had some tough times. I'm glad she finally got her chance...and surprised everyone with her beautiful voice. But it bothers me SO MUCH that the audience and judges were making fun of her when she came out on stage. What if she didn't have a good voice? She still should have been treated kindly and with respect.
i love her voice;)
i like your blog;)
have a nice day:)
kiss
This is such an inspiring video and story. This lady is so real and down to earth and I love her sassy attitude. I love that she only wants to be a singer and didn't seem to care that everyone was making fun of her. It really is a great lesson in not making hasty judgments based on the outer package. You just never know what's inside!
Jo, spring is a time of renewal isn't it? Thanks for visiting me!
watched that video at work the other day- wow!
She's absolutely marvelous! It's unfortunate that it has taken so many years for her talent to be recognized. I'm sure her performance struck home with many people, who all-to-quickly form judgments from outward appearances.
Hello, everyone, isn't she amazing? I have a feeling she is only going to get better, as well. She will be properly promoted, and perhaps even get a "wee" makeover. However, she's very sweet, and quite lovely just as she is.
She is just so dear isn't she? I just love it when someone so down to earth gets the recognition they deserve. Good for her, and I wish her a bright and wonderful future.
I become enraged when I see some of the things that have been said about Susan. I cannot believe people can be so judgemental. I feel like saying to the critics, "When you can sing like this LADY, then you can criticise".
I have seen her on the web but this is the first time I have heard her sing.
WOW!!! what a voice. She has one of the most beautiful voice I have heard. She will win.
I tear up every time I see that video. The pure joy of signing is evident all over her face.
I'd been seeing this video linked all over the place, but hadn't watched it till now.
I agree with Carla: even if she hadn't been as good as she is, she still should have been treated kindly and with respect. I would love to wipe Simon Cowell's smirk off his face with a 2x4 personally.
And why, really, was everyone so surprised that she is good? Apparently the judges' vast experience in show business hasn't taught them much. (For that matter, though Pavarotti is not the kind of singer I enjoy, he was prime evidence that big gorgeous voices can come in unglamorous packages.
I saw this on Youtube, I couldn't believe it! Some think Simon C. set it up, but I don't think so, his reaction seemed very sincere.
