The Unfinished Pomegranate

I was sorting through some of my art supplies recently, and I found an unfinished colored pencil sketch I did of a pomegranate. A few months ago I started to draw the pomegranate, and then I ate it before I could finish the drawing. When I found this little sketch, I decided I would like to complete it. So ... now ... I have to go out and buy another pomegranate. I love pomegranates so much, I may have to buy a few, because I just might end up eating it them it first. What do you say ... should I finish this little sketch, or leave it unfinished? The Unfinished Pomegranate... Do I need an excuse to buy another pomegranate?

Bonjour Jo, I think that the sketch is perfect and lovely, exactly as it is, but think that you should also buy a few pomegranates, just in case you want to finish it.

Thank you so much for visiting and adding me to your reading list.
Merci Beaucoup! Your blog is absolutely wonderful!

One never needs an excuse to buy a pomegranate!

Pomegranates are lovely to eat, so I think you should buy some more ;)
but I really like your sketch the way it is right now, half "finished"! you should frame it!

oh, and by the way, I have followed your blog for a while now, and I truly like it! Keep on writing.

It is beautiful as is, but please go out, buy another one and enjoy it.

Definitely buy more pomegranates and enjoy them - one is never enough! :) As far the sketch,if you were going for an exact rendering, I would leave it be as you captured where you were in that moment in time, and you can then go forward with other studies of the new fruit, but if you were interpreting and used the original model as a simple reference, you might want to see how it will evolve if you continue with it from memory.

Hey Jo----- take a bunch of photos of the pomegranate from angles, including very close up for the texture, then eat the pomegranata, then paint at leisure.

I like it, there is something romantic about and 'unfinished' piece. It illustrates the process of creating, I think.
But by all means, go buy more pomegranates!

I love the sketch as is. I think you should buy more pomegranites and do more sketches to compliment the one you already have.... just a thought

You might find it hard to locate a pomegranate. I looked for one the other day for a salad I make, and lo and behold the season had passed. Good luck!

I'd leave it as is. And the advice to buy another (or more) and photograph for future reference, then eat. As you paint, you will have the sweet deliciousness that will enhance your painting.

Marguerite, thank you. :-) I have had a hankering for lobster, ever since I visited your blog.

Lovelyprism, they are delicious, aren't they?

Thilde, thank you! And yes, I have framed it, unfinished, and it actually looks pretty good. Who knew!

A Human Kind of Human, I think I will have a pomegranate, right after I have some lobster. *heh*

Paula, you know, believe it or not, the more I look at it unfinished, the more I like it that way. I have framed it.

Pranksygang, yes, aren't pomegranates wonderful? And fun to draw too. :-)

Leslie, maybe I get find one at Granville Market. :-)

Lorna, what a brilliant idea! The next time, I am going to do that.

Cat, I agree with you. I rather like it unfinished. I had put it away, but now I am going to keep it framed.

Kathy, yes! Thank you. Great idea. You know, for some reason I really enjoying sketching and painting fruit -- apples, oranges, pears, pomegranates...

LoverOfLife, I think you're right, I may have difficulty finding one, but I rather like the unfinished picture. :-)

Dee, it seems to be almost unanimous -- I'm keeping the painting unfinished. I rather like it.

I think you should buy several, then you can eat each, as you complete another section of you depiction!

What kind of painting title would "The Finished Pomegranate" be? It would be confusing for sure. You'd have finished the art, but it would be of an uneaten pomegranate.. not a finished one which would just look like empty pomegranate peels. I think it must remain unfinished. ;)

I love the unfinished pomegranate. Just seeing the sketch before reading your story made me think that it was so tasty that the sketch couldn't be finished. Made be hungry for one myself. :)

This is a great story about this "unfinished" sketch. I would leave it as it is, and rename it something to reflect this story. Perhaps "Delicious" or "Yum" whatever you decide, it's a lovely sketch.
